Completing high school in Vancouver after emigrating from Hong Kong, Bing Thom has a Bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of British Columbia, and a Master's in urban design from the University of California, Berkeley. His 1992 Canadian Pavilion at the Seville's World's Fair was named best design, and the UBC's Chan Centre has earned respect from musicians world-wide as one of the finest concert halls constructed in the 1990s. A senior leader of Vancouver's business community, Bing Thom is also a thoughtful and principled public commentator on urban affairs. As artful city-builder, his global reputation has risen in consort with that of Vancouver, the city he has done so much to protect, and to improve.
