Homer at Smithe Condominium/Office Tower, 1992
This small gem combines refined detailing with one of Vancouver's best small public spaces, and anticipated the area-transforming 1991 Downtown Plan. The tower mixes 5 storeys of offices - retail 21 floors of apartments in a Hong Kong - inspired thin tower format.
Surrey Central City, 2003
An all-new downtown for a fast-growing Postwar suburb, this 150,000 sq. m. hybrid of a university branch campus, office tower, and public spaces are set atop and beside an existing shopping centre. The dramatic engineered wood structural elements are by Fast + Epp. Awarded world's best urban development prize' at MIPIM 2004.
Aberdeen Centre, 2004
This high-end Asian-oriented shopping centre wrapped in sinuous coloured glass mixes shopping, living, eating, and entertainment at a key transit hub. The curvilinear forms grew out of a re-design of streets for this site, plus Bing Thom's own longstanding formal interest in radial geometries.
Sunset Community Centre, 2008
Vancouver is blessed with City-run recreation centres for citizens in all income groups and neighbourhoods. Reconciling urban, social and landscape forces with a voluptuous contemporary form, ribbed inside with tilt-up concrete walls, Sunset Centre drifts serenely through this Punjabi Market area park.
